Documents search

Lyrics-02 1.png

How it works:

  • Before committing to a contract for the recognition of Italian citizenship, it is prudent to start with a feasibility study.

The Documentation Search is the first essential step to begin the process of recognizing your Italian citizenship.

At Ricerco we carry out a thorough and detailed search for the necessary documents, such as birth, marriage and death certificates, both in the US and in Italy.

Our dedicated team uses databases and exclusive partnerships to locate even the most difficult records, ensuring you have all the documents you need to proceed safely and with peace of mind.

What documents are required?

  • Applicant’s Personal Documents: Valid passport, U.S. driver’s license or state ID, proof of residence, and other personal identification documents.

  • Full-Form Birth Certificate (Long Form) of the Applicant and All Italian Ancestors: This document establishes the bloodline from the applicant back to the Italian-born ancestor.

  • Full-Form Marriage Certificates of Italian Ancestors: If the ancestor married, this certificate is necessary to confirm the continuity of the family line.

  • Full-Form Death Certificates of Deceased Ancestors: Required to document the death of Italian-born ancestors or those in the direct line.

  • Certificate of Non-Existence of a Naturalization Record (No Record Letter): Issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), this document proves the Italian ancestor never became a U.S. citizen before the birth of their child. If the ancestor did naturalize, a certified copy of the naturalization certificate and related documents must be submitted.

  • Apostille: All U.S. documents (birth, marriage, death, and naturalization) must be apostilled by the Secretary of State from the state where they were issued, in order to be legally recognized in Italy.

  • Certified Translations into Italian: Every non-Italian document must be translated into Italian by a certified translator. In most cases, translations must be certified and notarized, and sometimes also apostilled, depending on the consulate’s requirements.

  • Additional Supporting Documents (if applicable): In some cases, other documents may be required, such as divorce decrees, name change records, or court-issued amendments for discrepancies in names or dates across records.
